This is the one page in the series where the old claim was not merely false but actively harmful, so it is retracted in full rather than adjusted.
Why counting does not transfer to an online table
Card counting is real at a physical table under specific conditions: a shoe dealt deep before reshuffling, and the freedom to vary your stake sharply when the count turns favourable. Online live blackjack removes both. Shoes are typically shuffled well before deep penetration, and in many studios a continuous shuffling machine means there is no shoe composition to track at all.
Then there is the part the old page never mentioned. The bet spread that makes counting profitable — small stakes most of the time, large stakes in favourable counts — is exactly the pattern an operator's risk systems look for, and advantage play is prohibited in the terms and conditions of most casinos. The table rules worth checking, in order of how much they cost you: blackjack paying 6:5 instead of 3:2 (expensive — avoid it), the dealer hitting rather than standing on soft 17, whether you may double after a split, whether surrender is offered, and the number of decks. A player using basic strategy at a good rule set is in a far better position than one counting badly at a bad one.
